History of Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School

September 4, 1962 marked the official opening of Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School. Kindergarten and grades 1-4 were staffed by five lay teachers, and Father Stapleton assumed the role of principal. The school, built on a portion of 17 acres of land donated by the Spalding family, housed 150 students in the "west corridor" of the building, while the "east corridor" was the temporary church. The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart of Philadelphia, led by Sister Sally White as Principal, came to the school in the fall of 1963. With the arrival of the sisters, grades K through 8 were staffed and, in June 1964, Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School graduated its first class with 18 students.
